Position of the Week: The Pine Tree

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Celebrate your inner environmentalist this summer with “The Pine Tree”, a visually stimulating position that takes it’s name from the way her legs, raised straight above her, resemble the trunk of a tree.  It’s erotic, yet intimate, with lots of face to face time and plenty of opportunity for both partners to take control.

Start this move with her lying on her back, relaxed.  He can take a moment to warm her up with a mini foot massage as he moves toward her, pulling her legs up into a vertical position.  At this point he should be kneeling behind her legs.  He will then take control by gripping her ankles.  He completes the technique by leaning forward onto his hands, putting his neck between her ankles and smoothly penetrating her.  Having her legs blocking him from her body creates an intense, erotic build-up.  When he can no longer stand it, he can take the position to the next level by again grabbing her ankles and spreading her legs into a wide V, opening her up to his thrusts.

This position may keep you from lip-locking but it’s a good chance to play it up with some saucy lip service.  She can talk dirty to him while stroking his thighs with her fingernails – and he can tell her how hot and naughty she looks, while biting and kissing her calves.

Stimulating the Prostate: The Male G-spot (a.k.a P-spot)

Monday, June 7th, 2010

Stimulating the prostate can make a man’s orgasm much more intense.  Stimulating the area around and just inside the anus is extremely erotic and pleasurable for men.  Men have become more comfortable enjoying this erogenous zone without feeling any stigma and over the years at Honey we have expanded our selection of toys for P-spot play for couples discovering this area together and enjoying a sexually satisfying relationship.

Where is the Prostate?

The prostate is a walnut sized gland that is located above the perineum (the area just behind the testicles), below the bladder and behind the pubic bone.

The P-Spot is the area of the prostate gland that can be felt when you insert a well-lubed finger and gently curve your fingertips upwards towards his belly, about 1 – 2 inches inside.  Make sure your nails are well trimmed with no sharp edges!  It is not always easy to feel at first but with stimulation and arousal it will become larger and firmer and easier to feel and stimulate especially as he nears orgasm.

 Stimulating the P-Spot

Use a firm yet gentle ‘come hither’ motion with your fingers for stimulating the P-spot. You want to press with a firm pressure but not too hard, as you do not want to cause pain, but firm enough that your partner can feel the stimulation.  Communicate openly (and erotically) and have him tell you to press harder or lighter.  Once you have an idea of the location of your man’s P-spot, using a toy designed with a curve for P-spot stimulation can be easier and more comfortable as you would just need to gently thrust against the prostate to provide added stimulation.

You can use your fingers, toys and butt plugs to stimulate the P-spot.  Some great small toys such as the Fun Factory Bootie, Lelo Bob and Pandora are all curved to perfectly hit the P-spot and have enough flex and bend to provide comfort.  The Pandora also provides vibration and pulsating sensations for intense orgasmic pleasure.  Larger plugs and dildos such as the Fun Factory Bloomy and Nexus Neo are a little larger in size to provide a fuller sensation with the curved end for P-spot stimulation.

Another option for the adventurous is the use of harness and curved dildo. She slips on a harness with a dildo such as the Bend of Beginner or Intermediate Kit and can “peg” him with the curved dildo to provide him with the sensation of fullness, intimacy and P-spot stimulation. When “pegging” him from behind you want to point the curved end of the dildo downwards towards his belly to maximize P-spot arousal.

 Safety and Trust

Always make sure to communicate with your partner if something is uncomfortable or causing pain, especially with anal play you want to make sure you and your partner are comfortable with expressing your likes and dislikes.

Keep your toys and hands clean when enjoying anal play. Make sure to fully clean your toys, we recommend silicone dildos, as they are non-porous and can be sterilize by boiling them or placing them into the dishwasher. Use a sex toy cleanser like Safe Suds or Climax Burst Sex Toy Cleanser to clean toys after each use and always wash your hands before and after playtime.

Lubricate, Lubricate, Lubricate!

Always make sure to lubricate the anal area and toy before insertion. Lubrication will help make everything slippery and increase sensitivity; smoothing the way for prostate enjoyment. A thick water based lubricant is recommended such as the Slippery Stuff, ID Glide or JO H2O.   Silicone based lubricants such as Pjur are also a great option if you are not using any silicone toys.  They do not dry out and even stays slippery under water!

Position of the Week: The Gaping Position

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Even if the name doesn’t appeal to you, the Gaping Position is bound to get your erotic imagination going.  If she likes being dominated this position is perfect – and she’ll feel extra naughty as he watches her with her legs spread wide and hips seductively raised.

Start the position by having him get in between her legs, with her lying flat on her back.  As he leans forward, she puts her feet flat on the bed and raises her knees.  Then in one smooth movement, he grabs onto her hips, glides her up his thighs and penetrates her.  If you’re having some trouble finding the right angle, use a few pillows or even better, some soft sex furniture like the Position Play Tilt or Iceberg, to prop up her bum.

Having her so open and exposed will be a big turn-on for both partners, and she can arch her back a little if she wants to really show off her breasts.  Add some variety by alternating control – she can take a turn by pressing down with her feet and grinding her hips.  You can also slow things down by having her sit up onto his lap for a few slow, kisses.

Strong Kegals = Strong Orgasms

Friday, May 7th, 2010

The pelvic floor muscles (also known as pubococcygeus or PC muscles) wrap around the internal genitalia of both men and women.  These muscles are important during sex because they involuntarily contract when you climax, and if you make an effort to perform kegal exercises regularly you can increase the strength and duration of your orgasms.  This is one of the many benefits of strong kegal muscles…read on to find out more!

Where are the pelvic floor muscles?

Think about waiting in line when you really need to go to the bathroom, the muscles holding your bladder from peeing involuntarily is the pelvic floor muscles.  You can isolate them by starting and stopping your urine mid-flow.  Kegal exercises are the conscious hold and release of these muscles for regular intervals. These exercises can be worked at any time, whether you’re on the bus, driving to work or chilling on the couch.

What are the benefits of Kegal Exercises?

Toning and strengthening your pelvic floor muscles has many benefits for men and women, including stronger more intense orgasms, more fully inflated erections for men,  increased blood flow to the erogenous zones making them more sensitive and receptive, including the G-spot in women and P-spot in men.  Men can also become multi-orgasmic by keeping his erection after the initial orgasm and having further orgasms without ejaculate (“dry” orgasms).  Including better sex, kegal exercise will improve vaginal tightness that may have been lost due to childbirth or age; it wards off incontinence and increases self lubrication. With all these benefits everyone should be exercising their pelvic floor muscles and it’s so easy!

How to Perform Kegal Exercises?

Kegal exercises can be performed solo or for women; with a toy, to help provide you with an item to press around.  You want to hold the muscles then release working your way up to being able to hold for 10 seconds, release then repeat. Just like working out at the gym. These exercises can be done anywhere at any time because no one else can see what you are doing. Be aware of your body and try not to contract your abdomen and butt muscles while performing your kegals.

For women there are a wide variety of toys and dildos to exercise with, one of the most popular kegal exercisers are the Ben Wa Balls. These small weighted gold balls are difficult to hold and really force you to exercise your muscles. The Fun Factory Smart Balls and Lelo Luna Balls are also a great choice, and they have the added bonus of an extra internal ball which rolls around as you exercise providing extra muscle toning and stimulation.  These vaginal exercise balls allow you to go about your day as usual because they are quiet and discreet but remember like starting an exercise routine, start with 10 minutes a day and work your way up.  You can also tighten and release using your partner’s penis during intercourse which he may enjoy.  Another great tool is a firm dildo such as the Lelo Ella or Slim Jim to help you exercise your pelvic muscles.

With all these benefits of Kegal exercises from great sex to better health there is no reason not to do them and have fun at the same time!

What’s the Difference? Dildos and Vibrators

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Dildos are often confused as vibrators when in truth they are an entirely different entity. To help you understand the differences and similarities, as well as guide you in the right direction we have put together some key points about dildos and vibrators.

Dildos

What is a dildo?

A dildo is a flexible toy with a soft and bendable shaft. More often than not, they have a flanged or wide base. A dildo does not have a motorized centre so it will not vibrate on its own. The shapes and colors vary from toy to toy but you can have a very realistic phallic shape to ones that are ribbed, swirled, curved, or even shaped like animals.

Why use a dildo?

A dildo can be used with a harness for anal or vaginal penetration, the wide base allows the dildo to be inserted into a harness and kept there with a metal or plastic ring. They do not contain a motor so they are very soft and flexible throughout the entire length to enhance internal stimulation. Often dildos are curved so you can stimulate the g-spot or prostate.

Vibrators

What is a vibrator?

Vibrators are similar to dildos but all vibrators have an internal motor that allow for different movements like vibration, thrusting, spinning pearls, and rotation. The internal motor contained in the vibrator makes part of the length firm and less flexible as compared to a dildo. The base is not flanged but rather usually contains the battery compartment and speed/function controls. Vibrators can be as small as a one inch bullet, phallic shaped, smooth, textured, branched, or curved. Vibrators like dildos can be made of a hard plastic or soft.

Why use a vibrator?

Vibrators can be used both internally and externally for vaginal, clitoral, and anal simulation. Why choose a vibrator over a dildo? The vibration of the toy can add more sensation and pleasure to the nerve endings for both partners.

In most instances a vibrator can be used as a dildo by just leaving the motor off. Though the toy can be harder than a soft dildo you can get the same internal stimulation. In certain situations such as using a harness you cannot use a vibrator, the dildo has a flexible body that allows you to easily slip it into a harness and the flanged base keeps it steady. Most vibrators do not have the wide base needed for a harness.

Why choose vibration?

For women in general the most pleasure is derived from the massive nerve ending located in the clitoris and inner inch or so of the vagina. Vibration allows you to stimulate these nerve endings easily solo or with a partner. Most women will orgasm more easily from clitoral stimulation than penetration on its own, so adding a vibrator to your playtime can be very beneficial.

Why choose no vibration?

Everyone is different and not all women like vibration, some far prefer the penetration sensation and do not want to be distracted by a vibrator. The dildo allows for penetration without vibration and is softer and more flexible than a vibrator. For medical reasons many women need help as they get older or to maintain elasticity of the skin if they have suffered vaginal scarring, a dildo can help ease them into the sensation of penetration without the firmness of a vibrator.

As you can see Vibrators and Dildos are similar but different and it is a personal choice to choose the ones you like and to try each for different reasons. Having a variety of options in your toy box will help you discover your sexual pleasures and preferences, and to ultimately enjoy your body to the fullest.

Get informed! Sex Toy Material Guide

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

There are many types of materials used to make sex toys and it can be very overwhelming to try and understand the differences and considerations regarding each type of material. Recently concerns have been raised regarding phthalates and toxins in some materials making it especially troubling for consumers. Honey has decided to provide an informative resource to serve as a reference when choosing your next sex toy.

What are Phthalates? They are chemicals that soften plastics and are used in a wide variety of products from building materials, clothing and many adult toys. Currently the use of phthalates and how it affects our health is widely disputed and debated. What we do know is that phthalates make the soft surface of the sex toy porous; hence using a condom over the toy can help make the toy easier to clean. Some people have mild skin reactions to the use of phthalates so again using a condom over the toy cuts down on irritations as well.

Silicone: This material is very easy to clean and can be disinfected or sterilized as well. Silicone is a popular choice because it is easy to clean, hypoallergenic, non-porous, flexible, phthalate free and it can come in a variety of shapes and colors. It warms up to the body temperature and can retain body heat. This material is also very durable and long lasting. Silicone can be boiled for 5 – 10 minutes to be sterilized (as long as no vibrating unit is attached) and can be put into the dishwasher as well, they also can be easily cleaned with soap and water. Silicone is great for people who have sensitive skin or reactions to other products such as rubber or latex.
When choosing a lubricant to use with your silicone toy, you must make sure it is water based as silicone based can sometimes erode or melt the silicone material. If using a silicone lubricant be sure to put a condom over the toy. Some great silicone toys are the Fun Factory Boss, Lelo Gigi and Slim Jim dildo.

Elastomer: This material is a slightly porous material that is still easy to clean but cannot be disinfected. Elastomer is now being used in sex toys because it is a soft material but completely phthalate free, hypoallergenic and durable. To clean elastomer you simply need to use warm water and soap. Elastomer is a good material if you have sensitivity to rubber and still want a soft toy. Toys such as the Rabbit Habit, Rabbit Pearl and Layaspot are all made of elastomer material.

Silicone with TPR (Thermoplastic Rubber): Added to some silicone toys, TPR is a lightweight, flexible material to help add more flex and give to silicone toys. It is phthalate free, easily washed, pliable and supple to the touch but more porous than silicone without TPR. The Royal Princess uses this material.

Jelly Rubber: This material is a soft, porous material that can not be disinfected. Latex as well as phthalates is often included within the material of these toys, these materials have been associated with some skin irritations. An option to avoid skin contact with the jelly rubber if you suspect sensitivity is to place a condom over the toy. This will also make clean up a breeze. Jelly Rubber is a good material if you desire a softer material or have a limited spending budget. The Slim Jelly is a popular toy made with this material.

Hard Materials (Hard Plastic, Glass, Metal and Ceramic): These materials do not contain phthalates and are non porous, hypoallergenic and easy to clean. These products are durable and have a firm, smooth texture to them. Many new toys are made of hard plastic with a soft velvety coating, which maintains its phthalate and hypoallergenic property. Pyrex, which is a high quality glass product and hard plastics, are shatter resistant, but should you notice a crack in the toy then stop using it as you would not want it to break during use. You can boil the glass toys but do not boil the plastics. Some great glass toys are the Pink Indulgence or Masagi Glass, and some great choices to hard plastic toys are the Inked Vibes, Tulip G or Black Jewel.
